Deliverect saves Alberta’s Lee Garden time, money, and energy
Lee Garden has been serving its unique brand of Chinese food to the people of Edmonton for 38 years. Established in 1982, the family-run restaurant has two locations in Alberta’s capital city, with significant expansion plans already underway for new concepts.
Second-generation owner Ryan Lau speaks fondly about serving the community the food they want.
“We specialize in western Canadian Chinese food,” Ryan explains when asked what makes them unique, “We provide a lot of value for our clients. We try to keep the prices low. We understand that they want a bit more in terms of the volume of food. So we always give them a bit more.”
Given this goal to deliver affordable meals to their regulars, the team needed a reliable, efficient system for processing orders, especially as takeaway and delivery demand exploded in 2020.
"The errors have gone down for sure – 100%. The speed has gone up. Now it’s literally seconds for it to go into the system. So from one minute, it’s now like five seconds per order." Ryan Lau - Owner of Lee Garden
Deliverect adds orders in seconds rather than minutes
Lee Garden joined Deliverect in December 2020 as a beta client for a new Brink POS integration, which helped the team stay on top of orders from SkipTheDishes, Uber Eats, and DoorDash.
Ryan explains that he found out about Deliverect because of the problems the team was having manually punching orders: “I talked to SkipTheDishes, and I said I’ve worked with you guys for many years, and this manually punching in thing is horrible. It’s not working.”
Pre-Covid, delivery, and takeout accounted for about 30% of orders. But that soon increased dramatically.
“I think people are used to using the platforms with Covid,” Ryan says, “So now I think our business is about 50% on the platforms.”
Ryan explains the extent of the problem: “We had to double-punch every order. It’s a two-step process for every single order that comes through the platforms, which is very time-consuming.”
“I have two people in front just copying orders.” He continues, “It’s error-prone as well. If you copy it wrong, which happened many times, you get the order wrong. On average, around three errors a week just from copying the order wrong. You get a complaint. You get a negative review. Obviously, with these platforms, you don’t want any negative reviews.”
After using Deliverect, Ryan says it was much quicker, freed up staff, and reduced errors.
“The errors have gone down for sure – 100%,” He reveals, “The speed has gone up. Now, it’s seconds for it to go into the system. So it’s now like five seconds per order from one minute.”
“It’s also accuracy,” he adds, “There are no mistakes because it’s copied directly from the platform right into our system.”
Deliverect’s “extraordinary” menu function allows Lee Garden’s new delivery-focused concepts to flourish.
Ryan reveals that Lee Garden has new concepts focusing on delivery orders, one serving chicken wings and the other Chinese fast food. Ryan explains that Deliverect’s menu management function changed the game for managing multiple locations with different menus.
“The menu function is extraordinary,” he says, “I have multiple concepts, and all of the menus are on Deliverect. To be able to push one button and change three menus, five menus, it’s life-changing.”
Ryan explains that to make changes on SkipTheDishes, they had to email them, which could take weeks to make one change.
“With Deliverect, being able to control that menu with literally instantaneous reaction,” Ryan says, “You can make one within three seconds. It’s already changed on Skip’. That itself saves time as well. Imagine how much time you would put into it to make one change if you didn’t have it.”
“If I want to sum everything up into one word: what is Deliverect? It’s efficiency. That is the word. It saves you time, it saves you money, it saves you energy. Any business owner should have it.” - Ryan Lau
Deliverect in one word: efficiency
Overall, Ryan says Deliverect’s order and menu management system has reduced staff workload, enabled them to manage far more orders more quickly, and transformed the menu management process.
But Ryan says there is one word to describe the impact Deliverect has already had in such a short space of time: “If I want to sum everything up into one word: what is Deliverect? It’s efficiency. That is the word. It saves you time, it saves you money, it saves you energy. Any business owner should have it.”
